Success Story- Gabriel

Gabriel is a young boy with short black hair. He is sitting on the couch and smiling while holding his QuickTalker 12 in his lap.
We love to hear about successful device trials and exploration! Join us in celebrating Gabriel’s successful trial with some of our speech communication assistive technology (AT)!

Gabriel is an active three-year-old who is on the autism spectrum. His mom wanted to find a way to help Gabriel communicate!

Gabriel and his mother, Ama, joined Stephens County SoonerStart providers in Lawton, OK, for an Oklahoma ABLE Tech Assistive Technology (AT) Lab. SoonerStart families and providers explored the features and benefits of many devices during the lab. To help decrease Gabriel’s frustration with communication, his SoonerStart providers demonstrated several speech communication devices to Gabriel. Gabriel intuitively began using the QuickTalker 12.

Gabriel’s family borrowed a QuickTalker 12 from the Oklahoma ABLE Tech Device Loan Program to trial in his own environments. Using this AT, Gabriel found his voice. For the first time, he told his mom he was hungry and thirsty. He even requested to watch a movie! Ama is excited to see how the device benefits Gabriel in the future.
