New Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates for Federal Agencies

This month, on January 18, the new Section 508 Rules and Standards go into effect. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act provides standards to federal agencies that determine what accessible technology should look and act like. It also requires that federal agencies provide accessible technology, whether created internally or sourced from a third-party vendor. With new standards comes a need for a new Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) for agencies to use to help to determine accessibility in third-party products. The new VPAT, VPAT 2.0, is available now for state and local government entities that work with federal agencies and have revised Section 508 standards as part of contract language with federal agencies. It also gives those of us that use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 AA a VPAT format that aligns with those standards. Read more about the VPAT 2.0 and find a link to download here.
