Host Your Own Durable Medical Donation Drive

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Oklahoma Durable Medical Equipment Reuse Program* was established in April 2012, in partnership with ABLE Tech and the Oklahoma Health Care Authority, to take gently used durable medical equipment donations then repair, refurbish, and redistribute to any Oklahoman in need and ALL FOR FREE!

* Oftentimes, we shorten the name to OKDMERP (pronouned "Oak-da-MERP" or simply, "Reuse.")

Hosting a Durable Medical Equipment Drive is a GREAT way to provide a community service project through your group AND help OKDMERP continue to serve Oklahoma's population with disabilities.

Below, we outline some points to consider in hosting an equipment drive.

Who?

Since 2012, the program has received over 6,200 pieces of equipment and given away over 6,100 pieces of equipment, FREE, to any Oklahoman in need. The monetary savings is over $3.8 million! This program not only saves money but uses community resources and makes ecological sense!

What?

The main items the Reuse Program is looking for include:

Bathtub Transfer BenchesBlood Pressure MonitorsBedside Commodes
CPAPs and Auto PAPsGait TrainersHospital Beds
Knee WalkersManual/Power WheelchairsNebulizers
Patient LiftsQuad CanesPower Scooters
Shower ChairsStandersWalkers/Rollators

When?

Donation drives can happen any day, time, or reason convenient for your organization! Simply pick a date or a date range, let folks know through social media, email, postal mail, community bulletin boards, newspapers, club newsletters, and more about when your will be holding your event or for how long.

How?

When the date(s) for collection(s) is decided, the Reuse Program will provide a few staff members and a truck to the event location and transport the items to our organization in OKC! Or for items not so easily transported, your donator can contact the Reuse Program directly and they can provide a pick up at any location statewide. If the donator would like to drop off items, we have a couple of places to do that in Oklahoma City, Stillwater, and Owasso and we will provide that information to the donator.

Donation forms will be specific to your organization to help keep donated items related to a service project separate from all other donations and of course, every donator will receive a tax receipt.

Prizes?

The Reuse Program would be happy to help provide a prize of incentive to help urge donations. For instance, in the past we have provided awarded patches for sashes, shirts, and jackets, iPads, and trophies just to name a few.

We have awarded prizes in two categories: one, the monetary amount of the donations and two, the number of pieces donated. For instance, if a group donates one power wheelchair that is one item valued at $5,463. If a group donates 15 shower chairs that is 15 items valued at $1,500. There would be a prize for the largest dollar amount, the power chair, and there would be another prize for the most pieces donated which in this case would be the 15 shower chairs.
