Lions 3-H District Midwinter Convention Durable Medical Equipment Donation DriveHelps Oklahomans with Disabilities
The Oklahoma Durable Medical Equipment Reuse Program (OKDMERP) and Oklahoma ABLE Tech served as the focus for a service project of the Lions 3-H District Midwinter Convention held on Saturday, February 11, 2017. The Lions Clubs and their communities competed to collect the most durable medical equipment with two winning clubs receiving an iPad mini for use by their club.
This drive reaped 116 pieces of durable medical equipment and one donation in the form of a check, for a total of $23,844!
In addition, the competition sparked the interest of other organizations and clubs (in OKC and Muskogee) who would also like to conduct such a drive.
Here are the details on creating your own Durable Medical Equipment Donation Drive
The Durable Medical Equipment Reuse Program was established in April 2012, in partnership with ABLE Tech and the Oklahoma Health Care Authority, to take in donated gently used durable medical equipment (DME), then repair, refurbish, and redistribute to Oklahoma consumers in need at no cost.
Your club’s participation in this collection of equipment will support our mission in great ways. Since 2012, the program has received over 4,400 pieces of equipment and re-assigned 4,392 pieces of equipment to Oklahomans in need. The monetary savings of DME reutilization is in excess of $3 million, saving individuals, families, institutions, and the state the cost of providing new equipment.
