Register Now for Spring AT Support Team Webinars

Registration is open for the Spring Assistive Technology (AT) Support Team Workshop series which will be presented as Zoom webinars. ABLE Tech workshops are designed for educators, related service providers, and administrators needing a wide range of AT knowledge, providing standards-based training and dynamic coaching for the novice up to the expert educator.

These FREE sessions will take participants from theory to practice learning the steps for providing needed AT to students. The lineup will include a 3-part series of training all offered in a virtual, Zoom format this spring school semester.

Session 1 - January 14, 2021: In Workshop 1 participants will learn the process for consideration of AT for all students with disabilities, including legal requirements related to AT Consideration and how to help educators, related service providers, and administrators discover potential solutions available to help meet students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. Participants will be provided the opportunity to make low-tech AT to help students with curricular/daily living tasks.

Session 2 - February 11, 2021: In Workshop 2 participants will learn the steps involved in conducting an AT assessment and the procedure for borrowing AT to trial with students. Pre-requisite: AT Assessment Part 1 - Consideration.

Session 3 - March 11, 2021: In Workshop 3 participants will learn how to write AT in the IEP, summarize the AT Implementation process, compare AT across categories, and identify AT funding resources. The session will offer participants opportunities to virtually learn more about devices in each AT category. Pre-requisite: AT Assessment Part 2 – Gathering Information and Trialing Devices.

New Assistive Technology ALERT:

OrCam Read

OrCam Read deviceOrCam Read is ideal for people with mild low vision, reading fatigue, reading difficulties including dyslexia, and for anyone who consumes large amounts of text. It is the first-ever lightweight, handheld device with a smart camera that seamlessly reads text from any printed surface or digital screen.

The OrCam Read enables individuals with vision impairments to enjoy the morning paper, read any book and even read all that appears on the computer or smartphone screen. This device also has “Full Page Capture”: Unlike all other devices where you must scan line-by-line, OrCam Read captures full pages and screens at once. It has Bluetooth-enabled connectivity for use with headphones or speakers. It is easy to use with just a point and click and does not require internet. 

Winbridge Wireless Voice Amplifier

Voice AmplifierWinbridge Wireless Voice Amplifier is a portable Bluetooth speaker system. It is great for teachers, meetings, training, and other settings where the person speaking needs to be heard, or for soft-spoken individuals who need assistance projecting their voice to be heard.

It is portable, rechargeable, and comes with a headset microphone and second cordless microphone for guest speakers or pass-around microphone options. The output speaker is small enough to be worn around the neck with a lanyard but able to transmit 150 feet.
