Partner Success Story
Sevi is a 2-year-old from Canadian County who received services from ABLE Tech’s Device Demonstration and Short-Term Loan Program partner, The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital (TCCRH). He used TCCRH to trial assistive technology (AT) at home.
He was able to use a Switch Interface Pro 5 with a large switch to activate games on the family computer. This has increased Sevi’s independence by accessing toys and games he enjoys.
School Year 2020-2021: AT Devices for SPED Service Delivery Models – An Overview
ABLE Tech had the opportunity to speak to Special Education Directors regarding Contingency Plan guidance from the Oklahoma State Department of Education. As local education agencies (LEAs) increasingly utilize different instructional models that incorporate virtual or distance learning, it will be helpful for the IEP team to specify which services are provided virtually, in-person, or through distance learning. This may impact AT selection and use for students.
To support LEAs in the development of Contingency Plans, ABLE Tech created and then shared a PDF with specific guidance related to AT options that may be used in the various service delivery models. For a list of AT options specific to each AT category as well as additional ABLE Tech resources, view the overview document here (PDF).
2020-2024 Accessible Educational Materials (AEM) Cohort
ABLE Tech is excited to share the news that Oklahoma has been selected to participate in the 2020-2024 AEM Cohort. Oklahoma is one of seven states, chosen from a competitive field of applicants, who will receive four years of support and technical assistance from the National Center on AEM with the goal of improving access to literacy and educational opportunities for individuals across the lifespan. The core state-level AEM leadership team includes representatives from the Oklahoma State Department of Education, the AEM Center at the Oklahoma Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Liberty Braille, Decoding Dyslexia, and ABLE Tech!
An Interagency Cooperative will be developed and plans are to include representatives from various school districts, higher education, parent training and information center, and the workforce. ABLE Tech looks forward to advancing a state system of accessibility for individuals with disabilities from early childhood through postsecondary education and employment.
AT Discovery Website Refresh
ABLE Tech's popular AT Discovery website section has been refreshed to include new tools and resources in all categories of AT in environments of education, employment, and community living. AT Discovery is a clearinghouse for information related to AT devices and services. Each webpage contains case studies including people of all ages and disabilities, plus tips, funding information, videos, and additional resources. Visit AT Discovery
