Spotlight on Success: Moore Autism Center

Moore Autism Center serves central and rural Oklahoma by providing comprehensive psychological testing for children age 2 through adults. Our psychologists have expertise in diagnosing autism, as well as behavioral management through Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (P.C.I.T.), Applied Behavior Analysis (A.B.A.), and individual therapy services. Additionally, we provide speech and language as well as occupational therapy services. The diagnostic components of autism include persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction as well as restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities.

Our speech-language pathologists have knowledge in speech-generating and other augmentative and alternative communication (A.A.C.) devices. They also treat receptive and expressive language delays, articulation, speech fluency, and feeding/disorders, all of which manifest in individuals with autism. Our occupational therapists have knowledge in the acquisition of skills including self-care, emotional regulation, sensory regulation, social interaction, and executive functioning. Through the occupation of play, our occupational therapists are able to help children and families be successful in their occupations at home while learning and living in the community.

When the pandemic began in 2020, our facility recognized the need for continuing consistent therapy intervention for our families. We were able to initiate teletherapy services and were able to continue providing weekly support. This allowed our families to continue to progress and provided much-needed support for things happening during a pandemic such as schedule changes, social isolation, and changing expectations within the community. These things would have had a more adverse effect on this population, but with teletherapy, our providers were able to help our clients maintain and develop skills.

Thanks to the Moore Autism Center for being an ABLE Tech partner and being a leader in creative solutions to continue to provide therapy services!
