ABLE Tech wishes everyone a Happy New Year! We look forward to a continued partnership of serving Oklahomans who will benefit from assistive technology (AT) in the upcoming year.
Did you know ramps are AT, and ABLE Tech is now able to offer them for loan?
ABLE Tech recently received $75,000 for a #oklahoma4ramps project awarded by the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation! ABLE Tech is one of only 4 Assistive Technology Act Programs to receive these High Impact Innovative Assistive Technology (HIIAT) Quality of Life funds this year. The Device Reutilization Program will be able to purchase 35 portable/temporary ramps, 12 threshold ramps, and 12 accessible walkways to temporarily provide to Oklahomans living with paralysis across the state. ABLE Tech will connect Oklahomans with permanent ramp solutions as warranted. What a great way to start out the new year!

ABLE Tech will host the semi-annual partner meeting on March 18, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is required that at least one person from your organization attend; but, you are welcome to bring anyone you think would benefit from the information provided. Please mark your calendars and more details will follow.
Advisory Council meeting on January 22 at 9:30 a.m.
The quarterly ABLE Tech Advisory Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 22 at 9:30 am. Activities and reports will include the Fiscal Year 2020 1st quarter activities of all ABLE Tech programs, as well as an in-depth program review for Financial Loans. The meeting location is the Oklahoma Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, 300 NE 18th St. Oklahoma City, OK 73105.
As a valued partner, you are always welcome to join and learn more about ABLE Tech’s statewide initiatives. It is helpful for planning purposes if you RSVP by January 18. We would love for you to join us!
Spotlight on Success
Rochelle is a fun-loving and independent lady from Oklahoma City. When cooking became too difficult for her to perform safely due to her low vision, she started eating out which created issues with safely controlling her diabetes. Through demonstrations with New View, an ABLE Tech partner, Rochelle was shown several devices to help her stay safe in the kitchen with cutting and being able to set her stove and oven properly. Rochelle was able to trial equipment through ABLE Tech’s short-term loan program in partnership with NewView.
She also attended classes provided by NewView to assist with education on diabetes and is now well on her way to eating healthier. Due to Rochelle’s low income, NewView was also able to assist her through a grant with some of the equipment that allowed her to get the cooking and reading equipment she would not otherwise be able to afford. Rochelle was so excited about the options to assist her with making her own meals and being able to take cooking back into her own hands.
Assistive Technology Device Feature
Cleaning sharp knives and cutlery can be a hazardous task, but with this innovative brush, it's much safer. The unique wrap-around design allows you to clean both sides of a utensil at once while keeping your fingers away from any sharp edges. Its tough bristles quickly remove food debris and the textured grip helps prevent your hand from slipping.
After use, the brush can be placed on the side of a dish rack or on the edge of the sink to dry. This device can be beneficial for individuals with low vision, unsteady hands, or a condition that limits hand and finger dexterity or mobility.
