Partner Program News
Thanks to everyone who traveled to Stillwater for the Partner Meeting on September 13th. It was packed with a lot of information providing the opportunity to learn the differences between Public Awareness, Information and Assistance and Training activities.
Please share data on these AT Program activities moving forward and have all device demonstration and/or device short-term loan data entered by the 5th of October for ABLE Tech’s end of the year report. If you have any questions or problems, please reach out for assistance.
- Public Awareness activities are designed to reach large numbers of people, including activities such as public service announcements, radio talk shows, and news reports, newspaper stories and columns, newsletters, brochures, and public forums.
- Information and Assistance include the provision of information and supports to individuals and provision of referrals to other entities. All of these activities may be provided in-person, over the telephone, via email, or another effective communication mechanism.
- Training activities are instructional events, usually planned for a specific purpose or audience that are designed to increase participants’ knowledge, skills, and competencies regarding AT devices and AT services. Such events can be delivered to large or small groups, in-person, or via telecommunications or other distance education mechanisms. In general, participants in training can be individually identified and could complete an evaluation of the training.

Spotlight on Success
Ms. Reeh is a 95-year-old young woman who has been diagnosed with Macular Degeneration in both eyes. Due to this diagnosis, Ms. Reeh has begun having difficulties with reading, writing, medication, grocery shopping, and other daily tasks. Since she lives alone with her family many miles away, they are not available to help with her daily responsibilities. Ms. Reeh is a very independent woman and wants to continue doing each of these tasks as long as she can handle them.
NewView Oklahoma was able to come into Ms. Reeh’s home and work on several high priority goals. The therapist was able to assist her in areas which include lighting, home modification, magnification technology, writing checks and getting groceries delivered to her home.
With the help of assistive technology from Oklahoma ABLE Tech’s Device Demonstration and Short-Term Loan Programs, NewView was able to show different items to Ms. Reeh to complete several of her daily tasks with increased efficiency and decreased frustration.
Ms. Reeh is back to reading her mail, signing her checks, and now using her smartphone to order groceries. She is very thankful for all the help she received and especially with all the different devices she was able to try before making a decision on what worked best in her environment. Ms. Reeh stated, “ I will always be thankful for NewView Oklahoma and recommends it to all her friends!”

Assistive Technology Device Feature
The IrisVision is a wearable device with powerful magnification capabilities for people with low vision.
