What is a SmartHome?
A SmartHome allows individuals to control appliances, thermostats, lights, and other devices remotely using a smartphone or tablet connected to the internet.
Smart homes may include enabling technologies, assistive technologies, and durable medical equipment (DME). All of these provide individuals with disabilities the opportunity to be more independent in their homes and/or receive remote support from family members or caregivers.
How Can Enabling Technology Help?
The use of remote supports and enabling technologies enhances service options for Oklahomans, including those receiving waiver services. This includes:
- Allowing individuals to age in place in their own homes and community.
- Allowing individuals to move out of group residential living placements into their own homes.
- Increased independence for individuals when their caregivers work or are away from home.
- Increased opportunities to use self-determination skills and decision-making skills for an enhanced quality of life.
Schedule a Tour or Consultation
Explore our immersive, hands-on demonstration Smart Home in Oklahoma City to discover potential independent living solutions.
Individuals can learn about technologies that can enhance their daily lives from all assistive technologies. These demonstration sites allow for hands-on exploration, which helps match individuals to needed technologies. Individuals, providers, and service staff will be educated to better understand how technologies can be integrated into existing programs and how they can adapt their role to meet the changing needs of the individuals they serve.
Virtual Tours are Also Available
If an individual, group, or organization can't visit us in person, there are virtual options that offer a similar experience.
